Expandable Graphite Mould

Expandable Graphite Mould

(Expandable Graphite Mould)

expandable graphite mould is a high quality, low cost material for spray foams. It has the advantage of better flame retardant effects than CXG5B122, and is a standard product for all main applications.

Graphite flake is made up of a series of layers with different atomic structures in each layer, which makes it possible to intercalate other atoms or small molecules between the graphite layers. The resulting expanded graphite (EG) has a lower bulk density than uncompressed flake, and also exhibits significantly increased chemical reactivity.

The expansion volume of EG depends on the temperature at which it is heated, and the type and amount of intercalation. Therefore, a variety of methods have been developed for the preparation of EG.

The main application of EG is the production of sealing materials, such as flexible graphite seals, used in the construction of chemical plant facilities. It can be used to seal equipment, tanks and pipes and is highly corrosion resistant. It is also useful as an insulator in metallurgy for covering melts and moulds.

Moreover, EG is widely utilized as filler for polymer composites, owing to its low cost and good dispersibility. It is especially advantageous when combined with thermoplastics, such as PPS, due to its high thermal conductivity and flame retardant properties. The optimum treatment method for polymer/EG can be achieved by using either thermal shock or programmable heating, as the final temperature plays an important role in the disorder degree and porosity of the resulting EG.
