About graphite inc
Graphite One is focused on developing a fully-integrated source of green battery anode material in Quebec, Canada for use in lithium-ion electric vehicle and energy storage systems. It also plans to produce purified flake graphite for technical applications such as carbon brushes, brake linings, plastics and lubricants, and in the electrochemical industry (alkaline batteries, Li-ion batteries and fuel cells).
The company’s primary assets are its Graphite Creek resource located on the Seward Peninsula of Alaska, which is estimated to contain over 1.5 billion tonnes of measured plus indicated resources and inferred resources. In addition, it has two other graphite projects in the United States: the Gordon Creek and Blue Wing Mountains projects.
A graphite factory typically involves mining the rock by either open pit or underground methods, followed by “beneficiation”, which includes crushing and separating out the graphite from the gangue using flotation. The resulting concentrate is purified by repeated regrinding and floating (up to seven times) to eliminate impurities, or by acid leaching to dissolve the gangue with hydrofluoric or hydrochloric acids.
Graphite is a non-toxic mineral but prolonged exposure to high concentrations of dust or fume may cause respiratory irritation. Inhalation of the fume can lead to a lung disease known as pneumoconiosis. Exposure to the dust can irritate the eyes and skin. During normal operation, this material poses no inhalation hazards but, when shipped and handled improperly, may be a health hazard due to its abrasiveness.
